Krung Ching, Part of Khao Luang NP is without doubt the best accessible (Hala Bala in the far South is currently unsafe to visit due to local political unrest) location in Southern Thailand for forest birding.
We would actually recommend three days at Krung Ching. There are two main trails, one a four kilometre forest trail to the Waterfall and the more of a forest edge trail along a ridge. Both trails offer very good birding with overlapping but different groups of species.
An intense day's birding here in the spring will often produce sixty to seventy forest species including Pittas, Trogons, Forktails, Kingfishers and Babblers. Add to that the enigmatic Rail-Babbler and you've had a great day's birding.
There is plenty here for the photographer too. Using our hide we can get close to the forktails, the Rail-Babbler, bulbuls and babblers at a natural bird bath and maybe even a nesting Pitta.
Other interesting animals we've seen here include Flying Squirells, the beautiful Malaysian Weasel, vipers and pythons.

All the photos on this page were taken in Krung Ching by ourselves.
Accomodation here is basic (clean but no air-con or hot water) but well worth hardship. We have other hotel 30 mins from the national park (air-con, hot shower and close to the beach)

The HQ area also provides good opportunities with large fruiting trees in plenty. At dusk hornbills are often seen congregating near the HQ and at night two or three owl species can  usually be found.
